Nepal’s Priya Rai wins Asian Trail Master Championship 2024

Nepali trail runner Priya Rai has emerged victorious in the women’s Asia Trail Master Championship Final in Malaysia, enhancing Nepal’s growing prominence in the global trail running scene.


The championship finale, hosted at the Borneo TMBT Ultra in Sabah, brought together 76 elite trail runners from various parts of the region. This win marks the second consecutive year a Nepali woman has taken the championship title. Last year’s winner, Rashila Tamang, who competed in Indonesia, finished in third place in the challenging 78km race. 


Remarkably, out of five Nepali women participants, four Nepali women placed in the top 10 positions where Priya Rai has secured top position. Similarly Rasila Tamang completed in third, Chhoki Sherpa in seventh and Padam Kumari Sunuwar in eighth position. However Ang Furba Sherpa was able to secure twenty second position out of thirty five female runners competing for the championship.


Likewise in Men’s Asia Trail Master Championship, four Nepali runners participated in the championship where Arjun Kulung Rai secured tenth position. Similarly, Lokendra Rai completed in fourteenth, Furba Singh Tamang in twenty second and Milan Rai in twenty seventh position. The total number of male runners in the championship was forty five.
